Innovations in Energy Storage - Professor Don Sadoway - MIT Club of Northern California
Don's discussion will cover his high-amperage, low-cost liquid-metal battery as a grid-level storage device for renewable energy sources and his non-flammable portable battery for electric vehicles. He will end with an entertaining multi-media demonstration of his innovative techniques for classroom education.
Professor Sadoway is the John F. Elliott Professor of Materials Chemistry in MIT's Department of Materials Science & Engineering. He earned his PhD in Chemical Metallurgy from the University of Toronto and joined the MIT faculty in 1978. Don is the author of over 130 scientific papers and holds 15 U.S. patents, focusing on electrochemistry in metal extraction, refining and recycling as well as rechargeable batteries for automotive traction and grid-level structures for renewable energy storage. From 1995 to 2005, Don held a MacVicar Faculty Fellowship, MIT's highest award for excellence in undergraduate education.
