From Ebright Azimuth (Delaware) to Mount McKinley (Alaska) - Our Quest for the 50 State High Points By Matthew and Eric Gilbertson
Our mission to climb the highest mountain in every state began with Tennessee's Clingman's Dome in 1996. Since then we've biked, hiked, rock climbed, hitchhiked, driven, flown, and showshoed to the summit of 49 state high points so far, including Mount McKinley, Mt Rainier (WA), and Gannett Peak (WY). We've juggled on Florida's Britton Hill, stealth camped on Nebraska's Panorama Point, and tasted snow on Kentucky's Black Mountain. One mountain remains: Guadalupe Peak in Texas. We'll fly to El Paso on Friday and plan to climb it this weekend. In a one-hour lecture on Monday evening we'll show photos and share stories from our 15-year quest. We'll also reveal whether or not we were able to climb Guadalupe Peak. At the end we'll briefly present some of our work on the country high points including Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Andorra, and Mexico.
