LGO Conference: The Future of Manufacturing in the U. S., May 8-9

The Leaders for Global Operations program, in partnership with the MIT Industrial Liaison Program (ILP) and the Forum for Supply Chain Innovation, is bringing together an impressive roster of industry leaders, MIT faculty, government and labor representatives for a two-day conference in May on "The Future of Manufacturing in the U. S." In this video, LGO Program Director Don Rosenfield invites you to register to attend the conference.

Register by April 2 for early-bird registration fees.

The event is an extension of LGO's mission to develop knowledge at the interface of management and engineering as it trains technically oriented leaders in manufacturing and operations. Students in the program, which includes an intensive six-month internship with an LGO partner company, graduate with a Master of Science from one of seven programs within the MIT School of Engineering and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

The conference will feature three speaker panels: "Workforce of the Future," "Innovation in Manufacturing" and "Barriers to Success in Manufacturing." Keynote speakers will be:

  • Robert Bradway, CEO of Amgen
  • Rodney Brooks, Panasonic Professor of Robotics Emeritus at MIT and Chairman and CTO of Heartland Robotics
  • Olivier de Weck, Executive Director of MIT's Production in the Innovation Economy commission and Associate Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Engineering Systems
  • Patrick Gallagher, Director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
  • Joseph Jimenez, CEO of Novartis
  • Bob King, President of the United Auto Workers union
  • David Simchi-Levi, LGO faculty co-director and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Systems
  • Diana Tremblay, Global Chief Manufacturing Officer for General Motors
  • Jeff Turner, President and CEO of Spirit AeroSystems

John Reed, chair of the MIT Corporation and former CEO of Citibank, will open the conference on Tuesday, while MIT President Susan Hockfield will open the second day.
