The Competitiveness Challenge in Advanced Manufacturing: 70's and 80's Boom

Part of the sixth class in the series of IAP classes titled "Fundamentals of Science and Technology Public Policy-Making - Sci/Tech Policy Boot Camp."  The lecturer is William B. Bonvillian, Director at the MIT Washington Office.  This class will focus on the upcoming competitiveness challenge in both advanced technologies production and services, looking closely at U.S. manufacturing, the translator for most physical science related advances into societal economic gain,a nd the emerging global competition to the U.S. services sector.  The major rationale for federal R&D support has become its role in promoting U.S. competitiveness.  Students will obtain form this class a summary of the current competitveness debate in the U.S., in both manufacturing and services sectors.
