Tish Scolnik
Tish Scolnik (’10 Course 2) received two Fellowship awards from the Public Service Center to continue her work on the design of small-business wheelchairs in Tanzania, which was inspired by the ideas and skills she gained from a Service Learning course entitled Wheelchair Design in Developing Countries. She has worked on appropriate attachments like a collapsible desk and an umbrella holder that enable wheelchair-bound individuals to operate businesses from their wheelchairs. She was also part of the winning IDEAS Competition 2008 team, Leveraged Freedom Chair, which proposed a wheelchair that would allow individuals to navigate rough terrain in developing countries. She is a Truman Scholar and one of Glamour Magazine’s Top 10 College Women in 2009.
